Maths circle

Since November 2025, my friend Neil Shevlin and I have been running The Fitzwilliam Maths Circle in Dublin. Every month, we compile a problem set; everyone attempts the problems in advance, and then comes and asks for help on the problems they found tricky. Its somewhere between a puzzle meetup and a social accountability group, and its a lot of fun.

So far, weve mostly been working out of three textbooks, namely Jay Cummings’s books on real analysis, proofs, and the history of mathematics.

If you’d like to join, please email sam [at] thefitzwilliam [dot] com. We also have a WhatsApp group for light mathematical chatter. Here are the topics covered so far:

  1. November 2025: Induction
  2. December 2025: Number theory
  3. January 2026: Logic
  4. February 2026: Topology
  5. March 2026: Combinatorics
  6. April 2026: Integration
